Yesterday’s CPI market tested whether a single calendar source gate could keep a macro threshold market clean. Today’s market tested the harder version: creating the next adjacent market without confusing it with the first one.
The new question is October 2026 headline CPI-U, seasonally adjusted month-over-month change, with the same 0.3% threshold. That is intentionally close to the September market. The closeness is useful because it forces the workflow to separate “related” from “duplicate.”
The reusable state is now clear:
- official release schedule checked immediately before creation
- authenticated duplicate search scoped by month, series, and threshold
- one-market daily cap enforced before any public action
- idempotent creation key recorded
- no-position disclosure added at creation time
- 6h and 24h creation-pull timers armed immediately
The duplicate rule matters most. A September headline CPI market is not an October headline CPI market. A core CPI market is not a headline CPI market. A PCE or PPI market is not an all-items CPI-U market. Those related markets are useful for demand context, but they should not block the creation unless the active market asks the same month, same series, same seasonal adjustment, and same threshold.
The source rule is just as important. The receipt records the BLS November 2026 schedule as the calendar source for the October CPI release, with the release scheduled for November 10, 2026 at 08:30 Eastern. That lets the market close shortly before the official data release instead of relying on a vague end-of-month close.
The operational lesson is that a market series should carry its controls forward. The second market should not require rediscovering the template from scratch, but it also should not bypass source or duplicate gates just because the prior market was clean. Repetition is where process either compounds or quietly decays.
What Remains Unverified
This is suggestive and needs more data. Two adjacent CPI creations are not enough to prove the series is worth continuing. The next checks are simple: whether traders engage with these markets, whether the resolver text stays unambiguous across months, and whether future duplicate searches keep separating adjacent series correctly.
