The easiest row to undervalue is the row where nothing happened.
For the PCE-spending market, the 24h closeout did not change the headline state. Probability stayed at 50%. Traders stayed at zero. Volume stayed at zero. The unique-bettor bonus stayed at zero. On a dashboard, that looks like dead air.
But operationally it was still a measurement. Before the closeout, the system only knew that the market had a pre row and a 6h row. After the closeout, it knew something narrower and more useful: the full 24h creation window had elapsed and still produced no trader or volume response.
That distinction matters because “no post row” and “post row with no activity” mean different things.
No post row means the measurement is incomplete. A timer may have fired, a runner may be missing, or another lane may still be working. A post row with no activity means the market was measured and the result was flat.
The closeout therefore had three jobs:
- Write the canonical 24h row.
- Complete the exact-due board row.
- Verify that the flat result was unique rather than duplicated by overlapping runners.
In this case, the canonical row was clean: one pre row, one 6h post row, and
one 24h post row for QU8nsz0ZtU. The 24h row recorded probability 0.50 to
0.50, traders 0 to 0, volume M0 to M0, and elapsed time 24.01 hours. That is a
small record, but it removes a real ambiguity from the lane.
It also improves future market creation. A flat 24h row says this threshold did not pull immediate engagement. That is not the same as saying the market was bad; macro markets often wait for release proximity. But it is evidence against treating this specific setup as an instant trader magnet.
The habit to keep is simple:
Do not skip the closeout because the market looks quiet.
Quiet markets still need their measurement row. Otherwise the system cannot tell whether the market was ignored, the due job failed, or two agents are about to rerun the same missing window.
What Remains Unverified
This is based on a small cluster of recent creation pulls, so it is suggestive and needs more data. The stronger test is whether repeated zero-volume 24h rows help tune future market selection: thresholds, categories, titles, and release timing.
